*Warning: spoilers* Nice upgrade from the original game with more levels and carnage
Alien Shooter 2 is the direct sequel to the first game and offers a whole lot of content like more levels, upgraded visuals, new weapons and a nice, dark atmosphere.
The game follows the same story and principle of the first installment. A military complex is attacked out of the blue by hordes of hungry and vile aliens. You, a nameless badass, need to defend the base at all costs and wipe out the alien scum. You got many weapons and explosives to your disposal to fulfill this task. Gear up and let’s get to work.
The story mode now features seventeen unique missions with various locations. There is now also dialogue to enhance the story experience. Besides the story mode, you got two other modes to play, like the classic survival mode from the first game, and a new mode called Gun Stand. In this mode, you power up the same gun throughout endless waves, making it stronger. Survive for as long as you can.
The graphics received a big upgrade. Not only in polished models and textures, but also because of the shading and, especially, the lighting. Areas are now dark and more horror themed. The effects, the gore and the animations are also more detailed and fluent. There are some fog, rain and water effects that make the game look very nice, especially considering how simple the game is.
When talking sound effects and music, they are epic. The effects have been improved and the battle tracks are, like the first game, full of upbeat music and rhythms, pumping you up for the battle.
In terms of controls, they are just as fluent as the first game and work fine.
Alien Shooter 2 adds a ton of new weapons and items. You can now collect flare guns, radars, freeze guns and many more. You also don’t longer need to use one specific weapon to level up that weapon, XP is now shared throughout the weapons. There are also many new alien types, each more scarier or viler than the first.
The only problem I encountered with this game was that I could not see the enemies very well at times, because of the new gore and blood effects. Walls are painted red in some cases, making red aliens harder to spot.
The skill system has been improved, more skills and relevant upgrades are now available. It is a solid take on the RPG element. It now features an inventory slot system to stash your collected stuff, in case you need it later.
Overall, I loved Alien Shooter 2. It is simple, yet so much fun to kill a few hours. It is cheap and offers much content for the price.
Definitely recommend this underrated little gem.
