A Feast for the Senses
Sea of Stars unfortunately suffers from problems that have been plaguing the genre for ages.
The combat is very generic and boring. There is no meaningful build customization, and no strategy feels as effective as spamming 'Disorient' to stun lock your enemies. The elemental 'lock' system isn't a strategic challenge, but rather a check for "Do you have these characters available, with MP?". If not, you fail to interact with the enemy.
The writing is very generic and uninteresting. The main characters especially are just mind numbingly bland. No one has a character arc of any kind, and there is no conflict outside of 'you bad guy! we beat you up now!'.
Where this game shines and goes above and beyond are the VISUALS. MY GOD. THE VISUALS. The pixel art, shaders, and illumination are beyond immersive. The overland transversal is enjoyable for no other reason because I got to bear witness to so many different, lush, and well illustrated environments.
